Take a journey through four enchanting and contrasting Canadian provinces and discover the cultural and natural highlights of the enchanting East Coast.

Start with a gentle meander through Nova Scotia, taking time to explore Halifax and its waterfront. Then continue to UNESCO-listed Lunenburg, with its colourful harbour, and the fishing village of Peggy’s Cove, home to the famous lighthouse. Continue to Baddeck on Cape Breton Island, visiting the Alexander Graham Bell Museum before a full-day’s drive along the spectacular Cabot Trail. During this excursion, pass through Cape Breton Highlands National Park, coastal lookouts, and perhaps spot wildlife, including moose, bald eagles, and foxes. Cross over to Prince Edward Island taking the ferry across the Northumberland Strait.

Next, discover the island’s pretty capital, Charlottetown, and step into the storybook setting of Anne of Green Gables Heritage Place and Avonlea Village. Visit Joggins Fossil Cliffs, another UNESCO site, and experience the Bay of Fundy with the world’s highest tides. Leaving the dramatic coastlines behind, shift to eastern Canada’s highlights, flying to Montreal. From here, tour Quebec City’s old town, featuring the Citadel and the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, dramatically overlooking the mighty St. Lawrence River. Ottawa will follow and then dynamic Toronto, Canada’s largest city set on Lake Ontario. Spend a full day at Niagara Falls, with options for helicopter flights and a visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a historic lakeside town with Victorian buildings and vineyards.

Itinerary

Fly to Halifax - Touch down in Halifax, set on the rugged Atlantic Ocean shoreline. Upon arrival, you’ll be met by your friendly, tour manager and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day will be at leisure for you to settle in and explore the surrounding area.
Included full-day tour of Lunenberg and visit to Peggy’s Cove - Join a tour of one of the best-preserved British Colonial towns in North America, Lunenberg. Its old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded in 1753 and is known for its distinctive grid layout and waterfront lined with brightly painted wooden buildings. You’ll also get to see the town’s famous schooner Bluenose II, a replica of Canada’s most celebrated racing ship and a national symbol featured on the Canadian dime. Continue to Peggy’s Cove, a picturesque fishing village on the coastline, with a historic lighthouse dating back to 1915. This landmark is one of the most photographed sights in Canada, and the surrounding area offers magnificent views of the ocean and powerful waves below. You can stroll around the harbour, with its colourful fishing boats and weathered wooden homes with red roofs. Peggy’s Cove is also part of a protected coastal region, which helps preserve its natural beauty. Return to your hotel in the evening to relax and have dinner.
Travel to Baddeck with stops along the way and included visit to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and dinner - Check out of the hotel and board the coach for a scenic journey to the village of Baddeck on Cape Brenton Island. As you pass through the countryside and small chocolate-box towns, there will be stops for short breaks and photos. The first stop will be Sugar Moon Farm, a family-owned estate, where you can learn about the production of Canadian maple syrup and grab a drink and snack and the farm shop. Next, you’ll visit the Nova Scotia Visitor Centre, and you can stretch your legs as you explore informative displays about Cape Brenton. From here, you can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Canso Causeway, which connects mainland Nova Scotia to Cape Breton Island. After you’ve crossed this causeway, the coach will arrive in Baddeck, and you’ll get to visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. This museum is dedicated to the life and inventions of Alexander Graham Bell, who made this village his home. Born in 1847, Alexander, a Scottish-born inventor and scientist, is best known for inventing the first practical telephone. When you’ve explored the exhibits and collection of memorabilia you’ll continue to your lakeside hotel. Check in, relax and enjoy the tranquil setting this evening before an included dinner at the hotel.
Included full-day tour of Cabot Trail, a visit to Cape Breton National Park, and traditional lobster dinner - After breakfast, venture on a breathtaking journey along the Cabot Trail, one of Canada’s most scenic drives. This famous route stretches through Cape Breton Highlands National Park, passing rocky coastlines, dense Acadian forests, and quaint seaside villages. Traveling counterclockwise, you’ll make numerous stops at some of the scenic lookouts, which offer spectacular views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean. As you travel, there’ll be several opportunities to spot wildlife such as bald eagles, moose, and foxes. Your first stop is Ingonish, where you can rest and visit the Visitor Centre before entering the park. From there, enjoy the dramatic landscapes of the national park as you drive toward Pleasant Bay, taking short breaks at viewpoints along the way. Stop in Pleasant Bay for lunch before continuing the journey. As you exit the park at Cheticamp, there’s an opportunity to stretch your legs on the Buttereau Trail, a gentle 1.6 km loop that takes 30 to 45 minutes. Along the way, highlights include lookout points such as Cape Smokey and the Skyline Trail, ideal for photos and soaking in the unspoiled natural beauty. After a special day enjoy an included dinner where lobster, a Nova Scotia staple, will be on the menu.
Travel to Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island - When you’ve had breakfast and checked out this morning, begin the drive to Prince Edward Island, crossing the pretty landscapes of Nova Scotia along the way. Then travel by ferry across the Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island, enjoying views over the water as you approach the island. On arrival, continue to Charlottetown, the island’s capital. This is Canada’s smallest province and is home to a collection of Victorian architecture and expansive parks. It also holds a special place in Canadian history as the ‘Birthplace of Confederation’. Arrive at your hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening, perhaps taking a walk along the waterfront or exploring the downtown area.
Included visit to Anne of Green Gables Heritage Place and Avonlea Village - Following breakfast this morning, a highlight for literary fans will include a visit to Anne of Green Gables Heritage Place. This historic site brings Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved novel to life, and you can wander around the Green Gables farmhouse. An inspiration for the home of Anne Shirley, this delightful building encompasses Victorian architecture, period furnishings, and pretty gardens. There will also be time to walk the Haunted Woods and Lovers’ Lane, trails featured in the novels. Next, you’ll head to Avonlea Village, a charming heritage-themed attraction and recreated village inspired by the fictional town from Anne of Green Gables. Meander through cobblestone streets and visit period buildings like the general store, blacksmith, and schoolhouse. As you explore, meet costumed interpreters, who offer interactive storytelling and local demonstrations. Later, browse the craft shops and pick up some themed souvenirs. Return to the hotel this evening or find somewhere local to have dinner.
Return to Halifax via the Joggins Fossil Cliffs - Once you’ve had breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to Prince Edward Island today, as you check out of the hotel and make your way back to Nova Scotia, this time across the bridge. On the way, stop at Joggins Fossil Cliffs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its remarkable fossil record. Preserving evidence of life from the Carboniferous Period around 300 million years ago, this site played an important role in the development of geological science and was even referenced by Charles Darwin. Take time to walk along the cliffs and shoreline, where you can see fossilised trees, plants, and ancient amphibian remains embedded in the rock. From the Joggins Fossil Centre, enjoy views over the Bay of Fundy, a 270-kilometre-long, funnel-shaped inlet of the Atlantic Ocean between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Renowned for having the highest tides in the world, reaching up to 16 metres (52 feet), this natural wonder is known for its dramatic sea cliffs, unique rock formations, and rich marine life, including more than a dozen whale species. Arriving back in Halifax, check into the hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure.

Alternatively enjoy an optional city tour of Montreal with a local guide. This tour will take in the pretty Vieux Port area and the lively Plateau Mont Royal. Morning at leisure in Ottawa and travel to Toronto - Spend the morning at leisure, venturing around Ottawa at your own pace. You can easily take a walk to Parliament Hill and buildings, along the Rideau Canal, or visit one of the many museums or galleries. This afternoon, you’ll travel to metropolitan Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, set on Lake Ontario’s shore to check into your hotel. You’ll then have the rest of the day at leisure to explore the modern waterfront developments and tick off a few wish-list sights.
Full-day excursion to Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake - Niagara Falls will be yours to explore, and you’ll have ample time make the most of its dramatic natural beauty. For the very best views of Niagara Falls, witness its majestic landscapes from above with an optional 10-minute helicopter ride over the white-water rapids below, the only way to fully appreciate Niagara’s stunning scenery. Every minute, 45,000,000 gallons of water crash over the knife-like lip of Niagara Falls, into the foaming waters below. Your 10-minute flight includes an excellent audio commentary and will take you up above both the American and Canadian Falls for an unforgettable view. You’ll have some time to explore as you see fit. Day at leisure in Toronto - Embrace a final day to enjoy the city with a short orientation tour. Witness the sky-piercing CN Tower, and contrasting neighbourhoods like Greektown and Little Italy, and spend some time on the waterfront. Afterwards, you’ll be free to indulge in some shopping in the city's malls and make the most of the dining options. You could also spend time looking around one of the city’s cultural institutions, from the Gardiner Museum to the Hockey Hall of Fame, or watch the world go by from one of its lakeside cafés. This evening, head to the airport for your overnight return flight to the UK.

Introduction
The hotels used on our tours will meet the standard of a good, three- and four-star European hotel. Rooms will have private bathrooms, telephones and TV. The vast majority will also have tea- and coffee-making facilities. There will always be a bar or restaurant on site or nearby.

Courtyard by Marriot Downtown, Halifax (nights 1-2 &7)
Situated in the downtown area and opposite the waterfront, this sleek hotel ensures easy access to restaurants, museums, art galleries and the harbour. Contemporary, spacious guestrooms have TVs, mini-fridges, tea/coffee-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. There is a 24-hour fitness centre, a spa and an indoor swimming pool, as well as a polished restaurant offering all-day dining and a rooftop terrace with views over the city. Customers travelling on 24 September 2027 departure will be staying at the Barrington Hotel, Halifax.

Inverary Resort, Baddeck (nights 3-4)
A rustic, waterfront resort with a hotel and cottages dating back to 1850 and surrounded by beautiful grounds. The Chelsea, Toronto (nights 11-12)
Set in a high-rise building, this sleek hotel is located near the CN Tower. Contemporary guestrooms have air conditioning, TVs, safes, tea/coffee-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. A relaxed restaurant serves international dishes, and there’s a coffee shop, a wine bar, and a shaded terrace. Guests also have access to an indoor heated swimming pool and whirlpool, a 24/7 fitness centre, and an outdoor deck with views of the city.

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 45 minutes

Passports and visas

British citizens require machine-readable passports when travelling to Canada. Visas are not normally required for entry, but for travel from 15th March 2016 visitors to Canada must apply for an eTA online with Canadian Immigration at least 72 hours before departure atwww.canada.ca/eta. The current charge is seven Canadian dollars for British Citizens. British subjects, and anyone who has a criminal record or has ever been arrested, should consult the Canadian Embassy as a visa may be required.

Tipping

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. The customary gratuity for a coach driver is about $8 per person per fay, and for a Tour Manager is about $10 per person per day. It is normal to tip 15-20 per cent of the bill for a taxi or in a restaurant, and to leave a dollar or so per drink in a bar.

On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Helicopter flights

Sightseeing flights by helicopter are weight controlled and balanced. Please contact us if you wish to book a helicopter flight and your bodyweight exceeds 250lbs. (In such cases, a seat may have to be left empty, and some companies may charge a premium.)

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotel

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Hotel rooms

Standard hotel rooms in North America will contain one or two double- or queen-sized beds, and it is not possible to add extra beds to the room. Parties consisting of more than two travellers, but who have only booked one room, will be expected to make use of the two beds provided. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday; regular stops will be made though for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops.
